37Do you have the habit of testing your electrical system or Unit? Then you need to opt for professional service which will help you to meet your requirements.

The load banks will help you to learn everything about the performance of an electrical unit or system. They are mainly used for testing the electrical power outputs on gas turbines, diesel generators and the UPS system as well as conducting maintenance and commissioning. Such testing should be a regular part of the generator maintenance to avoid mechanical failure caused by the engine and other components when the generator is used in the power outrage. It also prevents the wet stacking and carbon build up.

These equipments apply a stable, controllable electrical load on the generator. It can be permanent or portable and can accommodate AC or DC ranging from a few kilowatts to multiple megawatts. Most units have an internal fan that cools the resistance elements and discharges the high-temperature air from the system. Hence, it is crucial to accurately position them away from combustible materials in order to ensure that it is operated in a open environment and protect the generator from overheating.

Types of testing

The testing has two separate methods. These are reactive and resistive in nature. Resistive is the most common method of field testing because it encompasses the full KW rating of the generator and the engine system such as cooling exhaust and fuel delivery system. Reactive testing is mainly done in the factories in order to test KVA ratings.

Testing Schedules

The generators must have the capacity to go from a cold start to a position of full load in a matter of seconds. Testing at this level keeps the part lubricated and prevents oxidation from the electrical contacts. It also enables the reliable engine starting. The annual unit should always perform at 100% level for a minimum of one hour. This test should be carried out by stepping up the load at certain intervals.

A mobile version of these units can be rented from a generator service and trailed to the site for connecting to the generator. They are manufactured with additional switches that help you carry the instrument from one place to other in order to test. The incremental switches help the machine to be ramped up with the generator and thus the testing is done.

The procedures for connecting them should be well thought off to mitigate the problems in case of failure of the regular electric utility source during the exercise. The output cables and generators should never get disconnected while the test is going on.

To conduct the test, these units should be parallel with the building so that any kind of reconnection is not required. In some critical cases, portable units and the generator is kept side by side in order to do the test.

In conclusion, it can be said that these testing modules will give enough efficiency to the generator in order to make them run smoothly for a longer period of time.
